What controls are available to mitigate risk?

  •  Use warning signs and barriers for areas where high voltage equipment may be present

  •  Practice Lock-out/Tag-out. Discharge equipment and make it electrically dead prior to performing work

  •  Observe safe work distances

  •  Use flash burn PPE suits when performing electrical work. “Normal” fire-retardant clothing is not adequate PPE for arc flash hazards

  •  Employ the use of insulated gloves, tools and mats

  •  Stay “weather-aware” for the risk of lightning
