MOTION

What types of motion hazards are potentially present on offshore locations?

Similar to gravity and mechanical hazards, motion hazards may be present in many different forms. Some examples include:

  •  Road transport vehicles, marine vessels and moving equipment

  •  Environmental conditions like flowing water, wind and waves

  •  Gears, pistons and other equipment in motion

  •  Vibrations from large stationary equipment and other sources

  •  Body position when lifting, straining or bending

  •  Man/machine interfaces like how valves are designed and installed so they can be operated with good body position

  •  Dust and debris releases that might introduce airborne hazards
