What controls are available to mitigate risk?

  • Proper PPE or use of trained personnel for STU/MSD maintenance

  • “Red bagging” medical waste, proper shipping and disposal of medical/first aid waste, PPE (gloves, masks, disposable gowns if needed)

  • Sharps containers available on location, sharps not thrown in the trash

  • Personnel report respiratory issues, proper diagnoses and treatment, periodic inspection and cleaning of duct work

  • Personnel participate in company medical assessment and prevention programs

  • Kitchen/galley periodically inspected and food preparation areas kept clean and sanitary

  • Drinking water periodically tested

  • Proper training of personnel

  • Personnel know where to locate procedures, or whom to ask for assistance
