What controls are available to mitigate risk?

  •  Confirm that machine guards and safety features are in place and have adequate integrity

  •  Provide other types of protective barriers where appropriate; limited access, temporary/or permanent barriers, signage

  •  Practice lock out/tag out during maintenance work; ensure the equipment is de-energized prior to the task

  •  Regularly inspect, especially prior to use, tools and equipment

  •  Use the “right tool for the job;” do not modify tools or disable safety features

  •  Identify pinch points, sharp edges, rotating parts, and shut down mechanisms during job planning (JSAs)
